When a company wants to bring a new product onto the market, that product has got to have a name. Sure, there are specialist companies in their field, but there is also the untapped market of the general population. Why not devise a website, inviting anybody to submit a name for a new product that is intended to hit the market. Details of the product would have to be sketchy, to prevent rivals copying the idea and the company using the name would have to be kept confidential. There will be no guarantee that a name will be chosen, but there would have to be some sort of incentive if a name submitted through the website is the one that was finally chosen or at least used as the inspiration for the name finally settled on.

There are all sorts of unconscious values involved in a name and it probably requires expert psychologists to probe all these values to discover which should be prominent in the choice of a name.
