Elevator 'Door Open' Buttons | |||||||||||||||||
Elevator control panel designers (if such a thing is not simply 'designed' by the mechanical engineers who built the lift) seem quite happy to bury the Door Open button somewhere randomly in with all the other identical buttons. So what? you ask, until you try to 'do the right thing' and hold open a closing lift door for someone sprinting up just a few feet away calling out 'hold the door!' No one can ever find the freakin' little button (but everyone tries) and finally someone will reach up and slap the bumper hoping that it rebounds as it should and doesn't close on his hand lopping it off. So why not put the Door Open buttons there on the edge of the lift door frame one on either side where it is natural to reach up and hit it during this scenario--which is, after all, the only use that button sees 99.9% of the time. (Then there are those who get on a lift, watch the door slide closed, stand there without selecting a floor and instead relishing the peaceful quiet for a moment before rejoining civilization by hitting the aforementioned button. We know that you know where the button is in that matrix of identical lozenges. So where are you when Miss 'Hold The Door' comes sprinting up? Hmm?)
