business card reader | |||||||||||||||||
A portable business card reader that allows you to store your digital business card (containing personalized information & picture, etc.) inside a gadget that is the size of a business card, and you can exchange "cards" via bluetooth when meeting a new person or recruiter. If the digital business card contains a person's photo, you won't lose track of who you are talking to and be embarrassed by calling the recruiter by the wrong name. The business card reader can then be synched to a computer like a blackberry, and your outlook contacts will be automatically updated.

Archer: He's not talking about a convention printed business card that could be read by a conventional card reader. He's talking about a completely digital virtual card that would not be human-readable until inputted into the recipient's reader.
This is something that an independent software vendor could create for a smartphone. Or for the Zune, which has broadcasting ability. But it would have to be a large vendor with clout, hopefully with the ability to get this accepted as an international standard. The reason is that there would be few benefits in having such a feature unless everyone else was using it. There would be strong network effects, once it began to catch on.
Therefore, this could not work as a standalone gadget. It would have to piggyback on something people already own--or soon will own.
