The idea is a social networking site which would connect academic researchers around the globe and stimulate 1) open sharing of novel scientific results in real time; 2) exchange of technical advice and ideas; 3) open source publishing which bypasses the outdated and extremely slow peer-review process in journals. The goal of the site is to expedite the scientific process by exploiting the collective mind and to make scientific information free and immediately available to all. Encouraging collaboration should shift the current environment in which science is still done in relatively isolated individual labs. The site would be a professional but also a social platform for networking.
