A new steering wheel cover, which automatically tests the blood alcohol level of a driver upon engine start, might save some lives.

I understand that currently there are some testers in the market, but one has to carry a tester with and I can't imagine many people enjoying pulling it out at a bar and checking alcohol level (unless they compete for a higher score, which might be fun :)). Of course a portable tester can be kept in the glove compartment, but how many will care to open it and use it before driving?

Having the tester built-in and having it perform a test every time the engine starts will subject all drivers of the car to it.If after a couple of drinks one starts the car and an alarm sounds, he or she might think twice before getting on the road.

The tester might come in different variations:

1. With a screen measuring the exact alcohol level in blood.2. Pre-set to sound an alarm at a certain level.3. Even locking the engine at a certain level if one believes self-control is lacking.
