Ignition Start | |||||||||||||||||
Automobile companies should add ignition start (starting your ignition from your keyless remote) as an add-on feature when purchasing a new car. This feature is extremely useful in cold weather to start your car 5-10 min before (while still in your home) so it has warmed up before you actually get in. Currently, this feature can be purchased at Best Buy or is available in very limited car options. Similar to navigation systems, car companies can offer this at a large markup, and many consumers would add this, especially if they lived in cold climates and it was included in the service plan (ie, most people are more likely to add features to their new car through the dealership rather than at Best Buy while they are still under warranty).

Cars in cold climates come with engine heater blankets. Plug them in at night.
I don't think the owner should be forced to buy a heater blanket (and place and remove it under the hood every day) just to warm up his car remotely (unless he's in a very cold climate). I like the idea proposed, but worry that there's a reason it hasn't yet been implemented except as an aftermarket product--probably a fear of being sued in case an unattended car with an engine running went berserk, or poisoned someone accidentally with carbon monoxide, or got stolen, etc.
