Every time I order coffee from Starbucks and ask "for room" I never actually get room. Clearly I'm not the only one as signs on the trash often ask one NOT to dump coffee in the trash. If Starbucks can automate their espresso machines, why not the coffee pots? McDonalds' soda machine knows exactly how much soda to put into a cup based on size, so why can't Starbucks have a machine that asks the barista to select cup size and then "with room or without". Not only would this save coffee, it would save the poor baristas from cleaning up the mess that unwanted coffee creates when the trash is emptied.

Great observation! I too end up breaking the rules and dumping coffee. Your solution makes perfect sense.
Don't give them a tip.
I completely agree. And that has happened to me a Dunkin Donuts too.
Starbucks has a site for ideas like this from the public, called My Starbucks Idea. Here's the link:

PS: Every company should have a site like that--one where the public can publicly post suggestions, and people can dialog about them.
