An old time way to kill a few yard weeds easily and without chemicals is a kettle full of boiling water. A half cup of boiling water on a dandelion soaks down and usually kills root and all. The trouble is kettle does not hold enough and gets cool too fast. Better would be a dedicated tool.
An insulated tank of 2 - 3 gallons of boiling hot water could be pressurized and applied with a wand like the chemical tanks do. The heat could be supplied by either electricity or a propane tank.
This would be a great alternative to digging up weeds or the use of toxic chemicals.

Won't this kill the grass around the weed too?
Boiling water kills weeds but it also uses a lot of energy (& cost money) to boil enough water to do a good job. There's an alternative that's even better that I'm going to post under new ideas for the outside. Please read it & see what you think.
