Have you ever forgotten when your parking meter would expire and suffered the wrath of a parking ticket? With parking tickets for expired meters approaching in excess of $65 in some US cities, failing to refill your meter or move your car can be very costly.

To remedy this problem, why not use a parking card/electronic meter system that will send an SMS prior to meter expiration. A friendly reminder to your phone or PDA can save you the expense and hassel of dealing with a parking tickets. By using a parking card with an electronic pin, a muni-meter with send an electronic signal to your phone, either 10 or 30 minutes (a specified by the user) before your meter expires.

Good idea, except for one thing; the city who runs the meters is making money off of them, and makes even more when people are ticketed for being late. I've heard of towns making it illegal to feed other people's meters because some crazy/homeless person would walk around filling all the meters, and I doubt they'd want a system that decreased revenue. Now, maybe if you could choose to subscribe to the system for $x a month..
