cold starts | |||||||||||||||||
It may already be available but I haven't heard of it here in the UK.Are there kits so that a small trickle heater can be left on all night so that the engine and car is warm in the morning? If there is and this is done by a cable to mains power supply is there a quick release system in case you forget to unplug? Could it be better dealt with by a system of powering the heater by induction obviating the need for a cable?

These heaters are very common in the colder parts of the US. Cars from these places often have a electric plug hanging from the front grill. It is used to plug in the heaters overnight so the cars will start in the morning.
typically called block heaters, after market models can be purchassed, most bolt into one of the front freeze plugs although I have heard of some that heat and circulate the coolent that mount on the out line of radiator.
Yeah, block heaters work great.
I would also suggest that you get a timer on the outlet plug so that it preheats the engine for a specified time prior to your commute.
I would set the block heater to start at around 4 am. Then your vehicle would be set for the commute.
Energy saver as block heaters can use a lot of power.
And the UK isn't as cold as say Moosejaw so I don't see the need to run all night.
