Leasing computers | |||||||||||||||||
There are some businesses that lease computers out to businesses, but why not extend this idea to the individual consumer? Working with one of the large electronics retailers, a personal computer leasing program could be set up so that for a fixed monthly payment you get a computer; more importantly, you get that computer upgraded every year, so that you're not always ticked off that the computer you bought turns obsolete in a few months. As a follow-on idea, since your customers wouldn't really own the computers, you could encourage them to store all of their data/documents online, and provide them with significant space on a website to do so. This could help jumpstart the move to web-based software and services, creating several opportunities to partner or sell aditional web and data services to your customer base. Eventually, the computers you lease out won't even need to be full computers; they might just be devices to access the internet, where everything is created, shared and stored. Finally, the old computers that you accumulate in the program can be recycled to schools or communities in the developing world.
