What is the point of having a GPS if you cannot use it when your life is in danger?

I have experienced that the hand-held navigator units do not receive a signal during severe weather or in forested areas. Unfortunately, times of low visibility are when drivers most need the navigational support.

I propose that Garmen or other GPS device makers team together with Cell phone providers to offer a back-up transmission (from cell phone towers) when satellite signals are not available.
