A basic activity when traveling to exotic places around the globe is to buy one or more of the local souvenirs. You know these tokens will make you remember the experience in the future, and also represent a great gift for your family and friends.
However, it is sometimes difficult to figure out what products are actually local, and more important, what is a fair price to pay for them. I have endless stories of friends that never try to bargain and get a terrible deal when buying things such as a Kenyan wooden giraffe or a Balinese scarf.
Thus, I think a good idea would be to make a website where people could get an idea of what to look for in each country and region of the world. Also, you could post how much you paid for certain items, to give other travelers a sense of what to expect when they arrive.

Since everything is manufactured in China these days you probably can get a general catalog from a Chinese central business organization.
i think wikitravel already has this under 'what to buy'; it's also editable by visitors.
this is an interesting point though ... there are some very unique local products (where i live, pumpkin lanterns) that are not found anywhere else. it's great to encourage local traditional crafts, but the information 'is' out there.
