Solar driven car air con | |||||||||||||||||
Has anybody thought of installing solar voltaic cells on the roof of car to drive a small air con to back up the engine driven one? In that way we will save some fuel and reduce green house gas.

We still do not have solar voltiacs which could power a car air con.It would power a small car fridge - you require a lot more power todrive a air con. May be a day will come when we will have heavy duty solarvoltiacs or highly efficient air con which could run on solar energy.
Some luxury models have solar-driven (maybe?) exhaust fans. These run while the car is parked in a hot area. There are also aftermarket/as-seen-on-TV models. No air conditioning, though.
useing a battery bank of sufficiant numbers(10x12v deep cycle=120 volts)small window unit draws 80 watts@110(surge @start 1500 w)so you need 2k w inverter to supply 110 to a/c (drawing only 50w @compressor idle) solar panels need only supply 80w to break evan (during cycling extra 30w goes into batterys) AT FULL SUN (THIS DOES WORK FOR ME)i have a big black truck.
