Portable Cable Data Modem | |||||||||||||||||
How about a cable modem that can travel with your laptop? I've run across many rental properties that don't have high speed Internet access but do provide cable service. When you travel you could connect the portable cable modem to the cable service at the hotel or rental property and receive high speed internet access.

The modem is not an issue. It's a question of whether the cable service includes internet, and how you pay for it.
Hotels often have their own internet service, and their cable connection locked with tamper proof connectors.
For seasonal rental property, you'd need to pay for that service and activate a modem you bring. Cable modems are standard from ost cable systems, you in theory, you could take your home cable modem and subscribe it to the rental property's internet provider, which will likely be separate from your home one.
If you want one internet subscription to work at home, or at least be available wherever you stay, you will want a cellular wireless based service.
