Cordless tool charging case | |||||||||||||||||
I'd like to see a cordless power-tool company design a case for their tool that can: 1. incorporate the charger inside as part of the case, 2. smart-charge the tools without removing the battery, and 3. hang on the wall. Seems like most cordless tools you buy today come with a case--it's a nice, expensive box, that I don't have a use for. But when I'm done using a tool, I have to charge the battery back up, so I end up never actually putting it back in the case. I leave them out on the work-bench next to their chargers (with batteries), which also occupy space on my workbench. So my whole workbench is full of tools recharging. Annoying. Smart-charging because I know that continual recharging will kill a battery. When it's full, this charger shuts-off. Not new technology, but I don't want to have to remove the battery from charge in an hour--after all, I'm already done for the day. All of my cord-type tools hang neatly on the wall in their prescribed places. Not the cordless ones. If someone produces this, then I can just snap the cordless drill back into its box and it's charging (as needed) and out of the way. That'd be great.

Since batteries in battery powered tools do not have a long usage time it would be nice if a series of tools all had the same battery configuration so that a heavy duty charger could have a multiple output socket and several batteries could be charged at the same time from the same installation and then the fully charged spare batteries could be put into appropriate cavities in the tool carrying case so that 2 or 3 spares could be taken to the work place to maintain longer work time.
You can get kits or a line of tools that use the same battery configuration, mostly from the same manufacturer.
If you take care of the batteries, they can last a bit.
Another feature I'm adding to the case is the ability to charge tools from a cig socket in the truck (or other 12VDC vehicle).
I visited a plumbing shop and the first thing all of the guys did when they brought-in their trucks was to remove the power tools and put them on charge. What a waste of time. They have to do this every day? Just charge them in the case, still in the truck. I think the drain on the battery would amount to less than a few amps. Shop trucks have big batteries anyway.
It's too bad battery plugs and sockets weren't standardized (for a particular electrical configuration), so that there could be a standardized charger to charge the tools of many brands. Then the buyer would only have to pay for, and find space for, one charger, not several.
