Jumpstart with drill battery | |||||||||||||||||
I want a device that will allow me to plug my 18v cordless drill battery into it to jumpstart a vehicle, recharge a battery or boost a weak one. Cordless tools have evolved to a point where the batteries store a really large amount of power. And I have them around often. I know that companies are successfully selling 'jumpstarters' that contain their own battery--why not just sell a device that will allow a fully-charged 18V drill battery to plug into your cigar lighter or clip to the existing battery to do the same thing. I have cordless tools around but still, when I need to jumpstart the lawnmower or the tractor, I have to drag an extension cord across the yard to it to put a real charger on it, or try to get a car near to it. A drill battery could easily start an ATV or PWC, or if you need to start a car that's dead, you could leave it plugged in a few minutes to recharge. You could put in current-limiting to keep it connected and boosting while you crank, but not damage anything. Good idea?

Yes, but probably not in view for most tool manufacturers, who would have to build one, although I guess some 3rd party manufacturer could build one and have adapters for various battery formats.
