Magazines cater to all different tastes. Visually impaired people (VIP) have all different tastes. However magazines are not normally accessible to VIPs. A sighted person could provide a reading service.

There are hardly any weekly or monthly magazines that you would normally find in newsagents that are written in braille or provide a podcast of their content. This therefore excludes a huge number of people with impaired vision. A sighted person could help out by reading the contents of the magazine over the phone or face to face. Either the magazine is bought by the VIP via a monthly subscription or the sighted person buys the magazine and is reimbursed the cost by the VIP. This idea would ideally be most suited to being run through a local blind club where people would be vetted before being allowed to read the magazine.

I don't know where you're based, but in the UK we have a system whereby books, magazines, journals and newspapers are read and taped, and the tapes are distributed to the blind. They just need to register.

Having someone dedicate their time on an individual basis is a good and thoughtful idea, however having the system we have here means it's less labour intensive and more people can take advantage of the resources available. So I've given your idea a thumbs-up, just for the ongoing principle of it :-)
