What do you call someone who is not a scientist per se, and not a sci-fi writer per se, but who nevertheless dabbles in predicting or looking at the future via essays, blogs or websites? A scifientist, that\\'s what.

Has this word ever been used this way before? If so, who coined it and when? This could be a good way of defining people who are not scientists but who are looking into the future of our planet in terms of climate change and global warming.

Good idea? Good coinage? How to spell it?

Scifientist? Or sci-fi-entist?

'Science Popularist' I've heard people use this to describe those group of people.

Thanks for that, Sir, I didn't know. I googled the term and could only find a blogger who used the userid of "scifientist" as his moniker online. but in news stories and Urban Dictionary, I still cannot find any referenecs to the word. can you point me to the reference or citation where you saw the concept of people who popularize science as 'scifientists'? Thanks. I am sure there is nothing new under the sun, so I am sure someone has already coined the word. just want to find out where the citation is. Thanks.

Danny, a New Scifientist!

A friend in the Midwest writes:

Scifientist: a science fiction afficiondo crossed with a serious scientist.

Yeah, there is a fine line between science fiction and science fact these days.

It's hard to say.
