Shirt/Tie Protector | |||||||||||||||||
Having ruined several expensive ties and other articles of clothing, I see the need for a dignified way to wear a bib and protect your clothes. A simple adaptation of plastic wrap precut into squares large enough to protect the wearer from staining his/her clothes can be presented to diners in fine restaurants. The static cling will hold the bib in place and since it is virtually transparent the wearer can be spared the silly feeling one experiences wearing those ridiculous lobster Bibs. The cost will be negligable and well worth the investment for the goodwill a restaurant would receive from their customers.

or.... slow down the speed of the fork as it travels from the plate of food to your mouth. For subs etc.., try eating the sub above the plate instead of above an expensive tie.
When I used to have custom shirts made, the tailor turned me on to a little trick. He built in a thin cross strip across the pocket. When you eat, you can tuck your tie into the strip. This way, you can't dip the tie into the food or drop food on it. It also looks reasonably elegant and a whole lot better than using a bib or tossing the tie over your shoulder.
Using a tie pin or tie clip works just as well. Ties swing from the lowest point of attachment, so clipping the tie halfway down reduces the range of things that it can get into. Eating diner in a fine restaurant wearing a bib does not seem dignified to me, especially if you're wearing a expensive shirt, tie and suit!
