Many legal documents should be available for downloading without needing legal advise. A questionaire would indicate if particular advice was recommended and at what stage and what documents would be required on the first visit

I said this elsewhere, when you go to law, only the lawyers benefit.

Few legal documents are available for free. California is a notable exception. This is an expensive site. Most states and federal legal documents are provided by private publishers. Since legal requires change continually, the documents must be updated continually. Will this be a government owned, tax supported site or a non-profit site to be paid for by users or others? Nolo press is a publisher that specializes in self-help legal books. Their right, and others, to publish legal advice books is protected free speech. But giving specific legal advice based on responses in a quesionaire is the practice of law and restricted to those who are licensed. Many attorneys have begun to use their website to provide information including forms and to solicit questions by email. Although simple answer might be answered for free, more complex matter can potentiallu turn in to clients.Perhaps your idea would work with an organization of like minded attorney, not a law firm, that would see the benefit of providing basic legal documents free of charge and questionaires that would help those with stuff like small claims and uncontested divorces. The benefit being that they would generate clients for their practice.

Check this site out. Although not free, it does look reasonable. I can't remember where I heard about it, but I think I remeber it being a credible source.

Well a friend of mine (whom I haven't talked to a while but will still consider him that, even if he is a lawyer...) has a site www.tannedfeet.com which offers a lot of online resources, include forms and legal documents.

The wording in a legal document, even the punctuation, can make all the difference in how the document is interpreted. Considering the current attitudes toward proper spelling and punctuation, this could be disastrous. However, I think if anyone wants to attempt to write their own legal documents, they should be allowed to.
