Vehicle Energy Plan | |||||||||||||||||
Fuel prices are rising and they show no signs of stopping. My plan is to harnass the energy expelled from vehicles. Much like a wind turbine or hydro electric dam. Setup a system on a highway that captures the energy produced from passing vehicles. I actually have no engineering idea how this would be possible...but it seems so simple that it could work. Maybe. Until then, I'll continue to have a heartattack everytime I visit the pump.

Any energy captured will probably decrease the efficiency of the vehicle. There is no free lunch.
IT is not viable to do that.
It is more practical to make the vehicles expend less energy in their operation.
I've often wanted to see real data as to how much a road-generator would increase drag on a vehicle--we know that the road-itself is contributing to drag anyway. Maybe with careful design, this could actually recover some of that energy that would be lost. This actually could have some potential--but it definitely won't decrease the price of gas or of filling your tank.
I'm thinking of ducted-fan generators in the roadway, supplied by louvered grills in between the wheel-paths.
Maybe if you could secretly tractor-beam to the car in front of you to pull you along...
