Sometimes a person is sleeping nearby my microwave. I therefore watch its timer near the end and open the door as soon as it hits zero. But there's always a brief beep. If the mfgr. would just delay the beep for one second, there'd be no problem.
(I can't avoid the problem by hitting the stop button just before zero, because that causes a chirp from the machine too. Stopping the countdown by opening the door leaves the unused time on the timer--and "clearing" that time later also causes a chirp.)

PS: There is a Sound button on many microwaves, but this one-second delay feature should be added as well, because it's more convenient to have the desired action be the default action. (No one who wants the beep is inconvenienced by a one-second delay, so no one doesn't desire it.)
I agree. I find the beeping annoying, but there's no way around it. I took the cover off my microwave once and covered the beeper with electrical tape to muffle it. It's quieter, but it still annoys me.
No way to change them all, there's not enough bias one way or the other I'd think.
For your own personal use, I'd suggest typing an extra minute into the microwave. If I am ever standing right next to the microwave, I just hit "Minute Plus" four or five times and open the microwave when I'm done anyway. It's not an exact science...
Oh and I only read the first half of your post I guess. :) Don't have a solution for ya.
So, what I'm getting from this is that you don't want the beep or the button chirp. You have to put time on the clock for it to cook your food. That chirps with each button, too. What difference does one last chirp matter for clearing the timer? I really don't understand the necessity. However, I will agree that as a person that doesn't care about the beeps and chirps one way or the other, a one second delay really isn't going to inconvenience me either. "Let stand in microwave for 5 minuets before eating".
Good point. My counterpoint is that the alarm beeps are two or three times longer--they aren't just quick chirps. Also, they seem louder.
put your microwave on a power bar with a switch and switch the whole thing off
or you could open it up and disconnect the speaker/ put that on a switch
Thanks for the power bar idea. But my suggestion to manufacturers still stands, as this would be the least costly and most convenient solution. Users shouldn't have to correct the mfgrs' oversight.
dont know if theres a big demand for it.. but if there is any, it usually takes a 100000$ survey for them to do something about it.. i actually share your annoyance, and there have been a few times i opened the door at jusr the right moment that there was no beep and no time left lolanother option is to set the time to 99:99 and never clear it - then it also doesnt beep when when you set a timer
"least costly and most convenient solution" microwaves last what 20-30 years? it'll take a while
