GSM controlled video recorder | |||||||||||||||||
Some old nokia cellphones have these features:- they support IR transmission- they are python-programmable (series60 with py60)- they can receive SMSs :)- they support programs like Novii IR Remote and Psiloc IR Remote, which allow using the phones as remote controls "emulator". Join all together, and you'll obtain the possibility of program recordings on your VCR from any place in the world!Useful in case you remember too late that... you forgot programming a recording! It's just a matter of writing SW which simulate keypresses in remote-control-emulator-program. It's actually useful only if you haver an HDD recorder, which does not require inserting tapes/discs for recording.

The IR transmission won't help if you aren't there, unless you mean leave one home and remotely operate it from away on another phone.
Most people use DVRs these days, some with network programming capabilities built in, which can include from mobile phones
@classicsatOf course the phone has to remain at home! But an old nokia phone supporting irda costs just 50 bucks, so what's the matter? ;-)
Anyway, I just successfully experimented a method which allows any phone with stereo headset to be turned into a remote control just connecting to it an IR LED!http://jumpjack.wordpress.com/2008/05/20/worlds-cheapest-remote-control-replicator-just-1/
So, no need for IRDA, too. And as this method appears even to work with MONO audio, maybe even non-stero phones are suitable!
