Tastebud Diet Pill | |||||||||||||||||
Someone should invent a pill that temporary blocks your tastebuds. This would help people make smart food choices. Healthy but otherwise offensive foods would be neutralized while sinful treats would be pointless.

I can't seem to think of very many healthy foods that actually taste 'bad.' (??) I try to eat healthy, but I think the real problem is that centuries of evolution have programmed us to seek fat for long-term energy, hence, survival and also evolution tells us that sweets indicate fruits that aren't poison, while bitter is poison. Yes, asparagus and Brussel sprouts aren't 'wonderful', but many tastes--like smells--are more a matter of being used to them. Taste is largely smell anyway, so blocking the tastebuds (novacain?) still doesn't make the taste go away.
Finally, even if you eat the 'punishment' healthy foods with the help of your taste-neutralizer, does that mean that you'll pass up the turtle-cheesecake later when offered, even without the taste? I doubt it. I think the fat and sweet foods provide enjoyment beyond the taste--they offer a sense of full-ness and they activate pleasure-chemicals in the brain. The only way to skip them is will-power. Mind over matter.
I agree, healthy foods taste just as good as unhealthy ones. The difference is it costs more and takes longer to prepare healthy foods.
People need to just stop giving excuses and get off their lazy ass and do something about it. You only live once. It's not like you can cash in your chips and then come back another time and try again.
