Many average jobs are only hiring people who are 16 or over. Why not change that policy and allow anyone in the age of 14 or over to be allowed to work? This will greatly improve the responsibilities of students in the age of 14 before they enter high school. If these youth have a chance to earn money for their labour they could understand how to spend more wisely due to the difficulty that encountered them. Instead of household chores which has a low pay let's allow these youths to work for the public and get a decent amount of money.

I agree that it's fine and character-building for a younger-teen to work. That doesn't mean they'll learn to spend wisely, though.

I know that I worked at Boy Scout camp as a 14-year-old--somehow they were exempt, but the pay was really low. I also threw hay bales a couple of times and it was great money, but only a really short season.

Now hay production is all mechanized. Teens don't seem to want to do farm-work now, anyway. Actually, my kids don't even seem to want more money--they already have all the 'stuff' they want, so why do they need money?

Unfortunately, younger teens have a transporation problem. Not being able to drive is very limiting. I'm still not sure why a 14-year-old can't take the test--it is a test--if you can pass, you can drive, no matter what the age.
