Life-Saving Oxygen | |||||||||||||||||
Hundreds of thousands of lifeguards across the country use pocket-sized resuscitation mask to save lives.The rescuer pumps their breath, a mixture of 14-16% oxygen, into the victim. You need to have an atmosphere of between about 19% to 21% oxygen to survive, with anything less you would pass out and eventually die. These masks are used only in a first response situation and are replaced with better, bigger equipment as soon as possible. The general rule is to try to supply a victim with a higher percentage of oxygen sooner, because that raises the chance of survival. The problem is that when a lifeguard jumps into the water they don't have time to get big equipment out or turn valves, they need to be able to supply oxygen in a second with no assistance. My idea is to include into the design of the mask a small 3 inch oxygen tank; large enough to supply oxygen until EMS arrives and small enough to still fit in the lifeguard's pocket. They already make these tanks for airsoft guns, they are cheap too (under $3), you just need to fill them with oxygen instead of CO2. I have the perfect design also, it would allow an immediate oxygen output of more than 50%, and you use it just like you would any other resuscitation mask. This is the perfect invention for this type of market. One common type of mask thriving in this market cost about as much as this mask would yet it requires two lifeguards to operate it and supplies only the amount of oxygen that is in the surrounding air (about 20% oxygen), it cannot even be used as a first-response mask because it is not pocket sized. so what do you think?
