Internet voting is a dangerous idea, because people will be afraid of hackers. With new technology though, they could offer an updated version of something that Russia has had for a very long time. You should be able vote for your local election wherever you are in the country. Go to any polling station, and show your ID. They will electronically check if you voted anywhere in the country yet. If you did, they call the police and report you J. If you didn't, you step into the booth, which will have a touch screen (and keyboard for those who want) that will show you the candidates for your local elections, wherever you happen to be. You no longer need to show up late or leave early from work on Election Day, since you can step out at any time of the day and go to the nearest polling station. No need for absentee ballots for those vacationing within the country. In short, it will be easier for more people to vote, which will increase the low level of voter participation.

they will need some kind of national id. i guess a social security card and a driver's licence might work. and a national id isn't a bad idea either when it is so easy for terrorists to make fake arizona licenses.
This could probably be implemented within certain states. But there are a lot of factors to consider -- for one, ballots often differ from county to county or town to town throughout the several states. Barring the implementation of a massive electronic system (which at this time is far too risky -- too many security flaws, or at least more than a good old pencil & paper), it'd be a pretty big logistical feat... to say nothing of doing this throughout the entire country.
