I've always wondered why restaurants that have their menus posted on websites don't also allow customers to select and pay on-line. Then, you indicate when you expect to arrive, show up, sit down, eat, get up, walk out. This would make it much quicker and allow a greater number of guests per table, also a smaller number of servers, so more profit for the restaurant.
Of course, in many cases one doesn't want to rush the experience, so this would not be appealing in all cases, but if you are in a bit of a hurry it could be great.

I'm confused though. How many people would be too busy to sit down, but not busy enough to do a take away?Axe
pre-order is great. It allows the chef to pre-prepare the meals without the pressure of instant-ordering... perhaps a new genre of restaurant might use ONLY such a system. Why focus on "hurry" rather on quality preparation and fine dining.
That's an interesting thought, that the whole paradigm of meal preparation in a restaurant might change. Rather than "hurry hurry, the customer is waiting" we would have "our valued guest is expected in 2 hours ..."
As far as "How many people would be too busy to sit down, but not busy enough to do a take away?" it's a question of who controls the timing of the experience. In my idea people still sit down, but they stay exactly as long as they want, rather than a time determined by how busy the kitchen is, and how long it takes to pay.
