A clothes dryer has a timer that tells it how to operate and switches it off. Fair enough. Now how about a timer that tells it when to start?

Suppose you're doing the laundry at night. You no longer have time to dry the load without disturbing people. Set the timer, and it's ready to go in the morning. Could wake you up as a nifty side effect, along with warm clothes in the morning.

That might be a good Idea :) What if it also wakes you up with a melody :)

Sounds like an easy-enough option--my dishwasher has 'delay start' and I alway appreciate it. Also, drying clothes at night will avoid adding heat to the house in the hot-part of the day when the AC will be working hard to keep up.

But I'm an advocate of the clothesline myself. Dryers waste lots of energy and wear your clothes out prematurely too.
