120 V in pblc trasnportation | |||||||||||||||||
If you're on your way to an important meeting and you're taking a train, but your cell phone battery is dying, wouldn't it be great to be able to plug it in somewhere and be able to keep in touch, or to keep working in your lap top? If 120v outlets where installed in public transportation this could happen. Of course we would have to think about cables and theft. But sometimes, when you're late on a deadline and every second counts...

Public transportation is generally too short term in use to consider adding it.
Commuter rail or bus systems on the other hand, sure.
It's funny that you mention that because the idea came to me on a three hour bus trip.
in Asia, some trains in China already have power outlets
If you're willing to carry an adapter everywhere, fine.
I understand your idea, but there are massive problems implementing it.
Most buses and trains probably will need transformers and lots of modifications to run 120V. And there is the tricky problem of monitoring usage to prevent laptops and other items from being used. Think 1500 watt hair dryers and electric shavers...
