Perhaps a special mode that lightly entertains (flashes lights, soft tones, fake voices) and guarantees that your contacts and appointments won't be tampered with. To switch back, enter a complex sequence, or press a button in the battery area—whatever baby shouldn't be able to figure out.

Perhaps the kid can eventually be trained to ignore the phone over time (gradually decreases responses from naive interactions).
