solar power | |||||||||||||||||
this is an idea for a generator using solar power (hence the title) Anyway, instead of using photovoltaic cells and turning the sun's rays directly into energy, we have mirrors tilted around pipes of water, the water turns to steam, steam powers a turbine, turbine makes electricity and the steam can be captured and turned into drinking water. This idea would be best in a states like Arizona, Texas, Arkansas, and other southern states. It would work best in these states because there is and excess of sunlight and drinking water is in somewhat short supply. This would solve two problems at once: The problem of needing drinking water, and the problem of renewable energy. I don't see any downside except maybe the initial cost of setting this thing up. (it would have to be pretty big)

They essentially do that already.
It's not a new idea.
If you are filling the pipes with water you already have drinking water. . .
in reply to Hyenuf:
you can use salt water as the water in the pipes, the salt is left behind and what you get is clean unsalted water
As stated before the idea is not new and in fact this idea has been improved significantly. Check out Solar Sterling Inc. They make a heat engine solar device that effectively does what you want but instead of using steam uses a high temperature Sterling engine to make energy.
