First have a database of jokes that actually have been shown to make some people laugh.

Second type in key words into this portable joke database like "cow + ckicken", and it will automatically come up with jokes that include those 2 words. An instance in which this might be used is when a conversation is getting boring or taking a turn for the worse and you need a good joke to lighten the mood. so you search the last 2 words that someone just said or something you notice in the room, and the joke machine finds the perfect joke to go along with your current conversation. "Hurrah! The evening has just been saved."

The joke comes up on the screen and then you either read it to your friend or press the "next joke" button, and it will then come up with the second most popular joke in it's database that uses those 1 or 2 or 3 key words.

You may also have a USB cord that can get downloaded jokes from the joke machines website. This could also charge the portable "joke box".

Another version of this invention is a robot that spontaneously tells jokes all the time, and is always the non-sentient life of the party, and the comic relief. It would work by recognizing key search words with speech recognition software. And then in the same way find relevant jokes for those key words.

There could also be the dirty joke version, or the insult joke version, of the joke box or robot.

You could also modify the joke database to only include your very favorite jokes. Instead of getting the oldest and wost jokes ever made like "How do you get into you house if all of the doors and windows are locked?" Answer:" You run around the house until you're all in." These are the jokes to be avoided at all costs.
