GPS with parking meters | |||||||||||||||||
Why not add a function to GPS systems to find unused/expired parking meters for big cities, where parking could be a problem? Once a car leaves, it can send a signal to all GPS cars in the area looking for parking to show where the available spaces are.

It would be too costly for the meters to incorporate any sort of transmitting facility As it is, they are powered by a few AA batteries, perhaps augmented by a small solar panel. There is not enough power, nor an external connection to communicate or receive outside power.
An expired meter wouldn't necessarily mean its slot is free anyways.
Not to mention how the GPS receiver would receive that data in a meaningful fashion.
That is even if those in charge of the meters would want that info known.
