I was frustrated with all the change that used to pile up in drawers and containers and having to search for change for the subway or paper etc..I looked into some kind of separator oganizer but could only see battery or motorized models available...so i thought i would have a go at making one which works by gravity.

I built a small coin separator which separates my pocket change when I come home from work. I simply drop my change in and it slides down a short chute then drops into 5 "v" shaped aluminium channels. Both sides of each channel have a slot which has six sections each of increasing width to allow the smallest coins to fall through first.(total of ten separation slots) The coins then fall into their respective trays and when I need quarters, loonies and toonies(Canadian coins) thay are already there.

It works on U.S. coins as well are they are the same diameter

It works very well and only once in a while does a penny or nickle find its way into the wrong tray. I also find that the only trays that will overflow and require emptying are the penny and nickle trays as i use the other coins before the trays get full.

It is 12 inches long 7 inches wide 7 inches high and the receiving chute is about 6 inches above that at its high end.

I would apreciate any comments.
