Abolish all political parties. By doing this,
1. We would effectively be forced to vote on the person by their own merits of what they have done2. We could save a ton of time by eliminating idiotic debates that start "blame the liberals/republicans/conservatives/democrats..."3. We eliminate strategic voting4. We can easily end up with more choices come election time (instead of the usual two)5. This allows for individuals to stick to their own beliefs, rather than be pigeonholed into a preset group of beliefs from their own party (for example - when it comes to crime, I'm a conservative, but when it comes to prostitution, I'm a liberal! /Chris Rock)6. This would better mimic real life - whereby your friends don't judge you by the group you're a part of, but by who YOU are as a person.

There's no law that requires parties, but to pass a law to eliminate them would probably be unconstitutional. We have a right to peaceful assembly. We have the right to advocate a candidate. People have the right to vote as a group. It wouldn't be right to take these rights away.
Political parties make it easier to identify politicians that agree with your own general outlook on life.
I realize that to divide all of America into two outlooks is crude and not true, but that's why the all walk pretty close to the middle of the road anyway.
