Why not have a system to match donors with people wanting start up capital for renewable energy products? An agency could accept donations and fund projects voted on by the donors, or donors could answer specific requests. I am always considering giving money to environmental causes, but I am never sure where the money goes - this may help take some of the bureaucracy and match donors with projects quicker.
If there was enough money, I wonder if it could even collect interest as projects are allocated. Someone wanting a solar panel could borrow from the fund at better terms than from a bank. Hopefully, that person would then "pay it forward" with the money saved from solar energy. A similar idea already exists in education: donorschoose.org is a site where people can give money to a specific school project. Why not apply this idea to renewable energy?
