Web directions with landmarks | |||||||||||||||||
Mapping websites, such as Mapquest, Yahoo and Google maps, can be used to get directions from point A to point B, or to find businesses in the area. If the businesses are already stored in each mapping website's database, why not offer the option of listing all landmarks on important intersections along the route. For example, directions may include: Turn right on Main street (See Corner Coffee shop on your right). Such an addition may be good for everyone: 1. USERS: some people find it easier to navigate by using landmarks, rather than counting yards, blocks and minding geographical directions (south, east). In addition, users may be interested in knowing what is on their route (Park, Gas Station, Coffee, etc.) 2. WEBSITES may charge the businesses they list on the directions. Or instead buy themselves some good will. 3. BUSINESSES will have one more way of attracting customers who drive or walk by.

I agree. I suggested a similar idea for GPS systems.
