Instead of being forced to listed to a monolithic, one-way conduit of bad music the next time you're on hold, wouldn't it be great if you could change the station? "Press 1 for Jazz, press 2 for Top 40, etc." People would stay on hold longer, which means the businesses who used this would get more customers. I might even call it just to listen to the music! It could be Internet radio, XM, or anything else.

I think some PBX's have 2 choices of music, that's a start. "If" several stations were compressed into one signal, then you could have a "Dial-A-Radio-Station" feature. This could and should be available separately from hold music, otherwise you would tie up the queue just to listen to the music. So what I am saying is that there should be a number to call just for music and not to wait for service. Silly me! Cell phones should be able to tune in to broadcast frequencies!

That is brilliant, Mason! I can't tell you how many times I have disagreed with the choice of music selection people have made for their phone systems. Classical seems like a logical choice to me, but apparently not to some!

Just love it! The concept would also be handy in some elevators.

i suggested this idea to telewestbut with the option to press a number for musicpoetryjokesa storynewsetc

eg once you've pressed 1 for musicyou then have a choice ofjazzpopclassical60'setc

with jokes you could press star to hold it to the punchline
