xPhone to xmit local info | |||||||||||||||||
Make a super iphone which can transmit universal codes to act as a TV Remote, ATM/Credit Card, Car unlock/remote starter, menu ordering device, and any other local information transmitter. Devise a lock/unlock feature which can be turned off, but otherwise reads a finger print to unlock. You could set it up to require a new finger login every X hours, to reduce the security risks. Part of each broadcast identifies the sender, so it could be trusted to pre-order fast food before getting to the menu, etc etc. It could notify you when your table or ride or doctor is ready for you. The local nature of the device would prevent people from spamming you, as your ID broadcast would only work within a given range of meters. It could open the card-code doors at work & help with airline ticketing/seating & so on. Sir, please press your ID button on your xPhone, thank you... next!

I don't know if it's mechanically possible but it would be handy if a pocket phone could read bar codes and connect with a store's data base to read the price of items on the shelf. Many times I have encountered items on a shelf which are not price marked so, in effect, are not purchasable. Some stores provide a bar code reader at a point in the store but some large items cannot conveniently be carried there.
A bar code reader might be a great feature for some people, as a means to track purchases or inventory. I am not sure if many store might open their databases to customers, there is not much danger but stores seem fairly unmotivated. But they might & it would be nice.
