Delete phrase "Rate of Speed" | |||||||||||||||||
This phrase enjoys widespread use in the media and by folks on the street. Exactly what is "Rate of Speed"? How is travelling at a high "Rate of Speed" different that travelling at "High Speed". Could it be a lame effort to sound more technical/cool?

The use of various terms in language arise out of all sorts of motives. You cannot ban phraseology.
People are of course free to invent phrases, including nonsensical ones, and use them whenever they want. However, maybe if more people thought about what they are hearing and pointed out the absurdity of phrases like this, such phrases would die a natural death before becoming widely used and polluting the language. In this case, there is also some confusion since a "Rate of change of Speed" might suggest some sort of acceleration while a "Rate of Speed" makes no sense at all but I guess sounds a little bit more technical/exciting?
And what is this "google" thing I keep hearing about?
