Tracking Police on GPS | |||||||||||||||||
It would be a great idea to have the option of seeing where all the police cars and motorcycles are in relation to you on a map in your GPS. This would make it easy to avoid traffic congestion if you see a conglomerate of RED X's all over the map or stay out of danger if a criminal is on the loose. Above all this would help avoid the police traps that milks money out of citizens!

And what a boon to second story men!
First, it would require a receiver/transmitter infrastructure to be in place. Mind you, the patrol cars and such probably have that end of it installed.
Second, and most of all, it would be against the public interest if not that of police operations, for the public, or more accurately the criminals, to know where the police are.
If the issue is purely traffic, there are already services that can provide than info to GPS receivers (usually with additional hardware and a service fee.) There is no need to know where the police are, for a law abiding motorist.
i agree that it there would be more negative effect to giving criminals notice of where the cops are, and speeders notice of upcoming speed traps, but giving notice of location of ambulances, firetrucks, and towtrucks could give the same benefits, without the negative.
People often ask "what kind of clown would...." but do they really mean it? I mean, is there a big red nose? How big are those shoes? Is there a unicycle, or stilts? There are questions... and we want answers.
I'd like to sell a GPS that tracks police locations... one that omits the closest cop & also broadcasts the location of the GPS device itself.
