Carnival ride turned Cadillac | |||||||||||||||||
Why are we so concerned, when it comes to cars, about moving a piston up and down with a controlled explosion to turn wheels? I mean, i can go to Disney World and ride a car that moves with only the electromagnetics in a car. Lets take a lesson from the Carnies of America. Bumper cars work on the electricity from above to move their vehicals. Why not just stick some electro magnetic strips in the road, and allow the car to feed of off that power to make it move? Get a subscription, pending how far you travel, and that you can pay for instead of gas. This could even cost about half of what you actually pay for in gas a month.

It's called a railroad.
Well yeah, but you cant steer a railroad without pre-laid tracks. So why not update it for the highway. If they can put sensors in the road to drive your car for you, why not add alittle power to make it run too?
"A little power" as you phrase it requires massive infrastructure to every highway, side road, individual small roadway across an entire nation. It is technically possible but the outlay in finance for construction and maintenance can in no way be justified.
Probably would be expensive. So lets say that its not implemented all over every road. Im thinking more along the lines of major Interstates like I-4 if your in Florida, or I-95, where someone who was in a hybrid, or all Electric car that runs on lithium batteries doesn't have to stop and recharge after 400 miles if they stay in the "Power Lane" that can feed them the power to the car. And with the total momentum of the car, minus what power is needed to keep it up to speed, it shouldn't be to bad a hit. No more then paying for gas anyways. It would be an alternative thats better then the Lexus Lanes, economically friendly, and probably could generate a sympathy card to get initial funding since were all big on Alternate Fuels anyways, even though this exactly a fuel. lol.
Madjay, what sand isn't telling you is that he suggested basically the same idea less than three weeks ago!
Sorry, Dwane, not the same idea. MadJay wants to establish continuous power connection over all roadways. I suggested short inductive recharging sections parallel to highways for electric cars to recharge their batteries. There is a huge difference in concept and finance. The bumper car carnival system has no battery installed. It is continuous electrical feed like an electric railway.
The modified idea is closer to mine. I replied to the original concept.
Wow, well thats not a bad idea either with the recharge stations. I just want to avoide having to stop. Keep the car moving.
Now you're with my concept. With induction strip lengths of roadway you don't have to stop.
Well, then it should be feesable as long as they stick to the major highways, like interstate highways. I could see it getting passed in the house for approved budgeting. But some major car company would have to pick up on it first. Since GM is dying, id think maybe Honda would probably pick up on it.
continuous power supply does have the advantage that the vehicle doesn't have to carry it's energy around with it.
It just has too many disadvantages. Where I live, we're trying to get more power buried because when a storm comes and takes out your power for two days it's not fun. I would like to be less depedent on overhead power lines.
Also, you could never drive where these lines weren't overhead.
As for the modification of the idea, sure that would work. I think it's more costly than just plugging in overnight, but it would work. You'll have a headache charging for it.
