Magnetic velcro | |||||||||||||||||
I wonder if it would be possible to create a combination of a strongly magnetic flexible strip faced with a Velcro-like surface the would stick to a similar strip joining clothing so that it would not be necessary to press the joining strips together but merely hold them in proximity and they would snap together. That way a fly on a man’s pants would automatically close when the pants were pulled up and there would no longer be an occasionally forgotten embarrassing open fly.

Perhaps Velcro is not a good companion material since it requires a movement of almost a millimeter to engage the hooks and loops. A new renewable surface adhesive developed on the principle of the gecko foot pad might be more satisfactory.
