Every time a major virus comes out, Microsoft should send out free CD's like AOL does that have "fixed Windows" on them. Also, the CD's should be bootable, which would make them virus-proof anyway. Concerns about piracy should not be, because Windows upgrade CDs already check to see if you have windows.Windows pretends to take a long time to install, just to make everyone think it's doing something (really it does nothing!, and you can make 10 backup CDs via the harddrive in the time it takes Windows to go from CD to harddrive!), and this is a big pain when you have to reinstall windows because the latest virus is corrupting all the files. And then it takes an incredible amount of time to load up all the patches again from Microsoft.
Since MSN has an AOL-like distribution, (they also send out excessive amounts of free CDs), why can't Windows do so for obviously necessary reasons?

This is a step in the right direction. If Microsoft would allow unlimited redistribution of patches (say, by ISPs), this would be a step in the right direction, too.
Unfortunately, if Microsoft starts to send out patch CDs regularly, it might become profitable to junk mail fake patch CDs loaded with malware. It's not a complete solution.
are you kidding? all of this is offered on their website, free of charge. CDs cost money, which equals more cost to the consumer, not to mention the incredible amount of waste! you obviously have an internet connection, what's wrong with downloading patches?
Hello everyone,
You may go to the microsoft website now and request a CD be mailed to you. However, to my knowledge, you must order it from the computer requiring the patches because it detects the operating system version being used. Maybe they have a phone number you can get it from instead. I figured I'd post this here to let people know that microsoft is doing it to help save face of the company.
