Volcano energy | |||||||||||||||||
This one might be a bit of a challenge. But is it possible to harvest the tremendous heat energy that is available in a volcano. I understand that the logistics of building a harvest plant and all the other materials needed for the project to such close heat source is gonna be crazy, if at all possible. Could we divert a controlled magma flow away from the volcano and harvest the energy with relative safety? My basic question is... can we harvest the heat energy from a volcano?

They've been doing it in Iceland for years. . . .
Hyenuf, thanks for the info. Didn't know that.
Hawaii uses volcano heat too. Geothermal is a huge potential power source.
hennath has a good point that he didn't say--there's geothermal energy Everywhere if you go deep. Ground-source heat pumps are just the start. You could dig a hole in any state and if you're deep enough, it would be hot enough to make steam to run a turbine.
would this cause some unforseen calamity? There's been plenty of deep holes over the years...has this been tried?
