FOLDABLE LCD DISPLAYS | |||||||||||||||||
Why not have foldable LCD displays. A display couldbe folded into four or two, so it could make yourlaptop much smaller. A foldable lcd display in yourcellphone (in addition to the standard display ) couldmake TV watching on your cell phone a reality.

I could see this being really good.
There is a lot of experimental work being done today on flexible display circuitry so a roll-up display may be a reality in the near future.
Actually, I sit with two 22-inch wide displays in front of me every day and I'm perplexed that I'm sitting in a partial 'polygon' where the center of the displays are normal to me, were the edges are significantly 'canted'. I see other people with three displays
I wonder if the same research will produce a 'curved' display that would partially surround me as I work--sort of the way a drum-kit surrounds a rock band's drummer.
I could even imagine a 360-degree desk where you 'pop-up' into it. I'm sure that would really enhance the 3D experience.
I design in 3D CAD all day.
I wouldn't think it necessary to have one directly behind you. It would be hard to see it anyway.
necessary? no. I just wanna be like Neil Peart.
I see. I suppose you could have a spinning chair in the center and keyboards all the way around. And you'll be able to play the air drums in your office without anybody being able to see you(everyone will just think you're working very hard). BTW, Neil Peart is amazing!
there are a few companies already experimenting with this idea. formal desktop monitor solutions are a bit easier because the lcd can be framed in a chasis (http://www.coolest-gadgets.com/20080331/folding-lcd-monitor-to-add-a-lot-of-real-estate/).
the harder solution would be for mobile gadgets, or things that have less ridged structure or demand strong durability. the current conceptualizations of such a product is usually based out of organic-leds. (http://www.itproportal.com/articles/2008/10/04/sony-working-bendable-folding-oled-screens/)
