New Mobile form factor | |||||||||||||||||
Well...this could be confusing and wierd...but just let me type over my idea before i forget!!The idea is to have a slide form factor mobile phone in the reverse way....usually, u gotta a screen over the top with few buttons...u attend calls as it is and when it comes to dialing a number or text messaging you slide out. Instead of this ...why dont we have 2 line text screen with the complete keypad over the top and the big screen would be at the bottom and it is slided out when needed. By this, you protect your big screen...sms,calling,phonebook...all these gets done without sliding your screen....play games, watchmovies , pictures...other MM stuffs...you do it by sliding the screen out.. By the way..when you slide out, the bottom screen moves upwards.i.e your small screen with keypad remains static and your bottom screen moves upwards... hope i didnt confuse you all much...

i like your idea, i think it would be cool, especially because not using the big screen all the time would extend battery life, probably significantly. but im not sure that it would protect the big screen , ive noticed that sliders tend to get a lot of debris caught between layers being thrown into pockets and purses, so the very action of sliding with compressed debris inside could cause more scratching than loose objects.
I also agree that this would be worth a look. I use a candy-bar type phone with a touch screen and one day loading heavy objects, I broke the screen in my pocket. $$$.
This one would protect the screen when it was closed like the flip phones did, but still be able to have a large (enough) screen, like they can't.
It sounds like a good design, but hrench, why would this provide a bigger screen than a flip phone? If anything, I would expect the flip phone to have room for a larger screen being that there is no overlap of the two halves when it is open.
I can see your point Dwane, but I guess phones are just longer now that we're not flipping. Mine measures 4.25 inches, where I'm pretty sure my flip was something like an 3/4" shorter.
Also, the hinge does take up some space, but so would slide mechanisms.
Keyboards do make all the difference when texting however. I have one and like it.
