Reality show idea | |||||||||||||||||
In the sea of reality TV shows, I thought of one that would star people like you and me. I know the world is well connected today and people can easily keep in touch with others across the world via electronic media like the web,etc. That would apply to people who are in touch. The plot would be to try and get family/friends/aquaintaces who have lost all contact together again. People who want to get in touch with their loved ones contact the TV studio and the show researchers can take the last known contact of the missing person and go to the city/country in question. And the show could be all about them trying to locate them and then uniting them all. Once located, the producers could have the long lost pals meet up or if they are too far apart, then they could link them up via satellite. Could make for interesting viewing. I have more ideas on how to make this more interesting. Any additions are welcome. Another suggestion is to have a new category for media/entertainment on whynot.

We have a similar thing in my family; we call it a reunion. I see cousins that I haven't seen in a decade and we sit at the same table and eat. Generally, I don't have much to talk about with them once we get past the occupation and hobbies. Turns out that we don't have that much in common today.
Probably this is why we haven't talked much lately. It turns out to be not even so interesting to the two people involved, let alone outside watchers. I ask if he still has that Camaro; no he sold it a decade ago. He's driving a Japanese sedan now (not very interesting to me). I think about his room when we were kids and I ask about his model planes--all gone, he doesn't remember where....you get the picture--the things we had in common are mostly gone now.
When you think about it, we really have the ability to reconnect with pretty much anybody that we'd want to with the internet and Facebook, Classmates, etc. So I don't really see this as being so fun. Maybe bringing in old girlfriends/boyfriends or crushes might be more interesting...but if you didn't do it in front of the new partner, there probably wouldn't be anything interesting to watch. These shows are looking for fireworks.
I'll be pleased to hear your other ideas to make it more interesting--right now, I just don't see it.
Good points all, Hrench. However, your reunion seems to be with people whom you DO have the access to be in touch with, whenever you wish. My point is to get in touch with people that you do not have any contact with. And honestly, I do not suppose you would go through the trouble of, so to say, look for a needle in a haystack that you have no intention of bonding with. I am referring to perhaps a dear friend that moved to Nigeria or Timbucktoo and you never heard from him/her for two decades. Trust me, there are plenty such cases around.
Point is, this is to make for interesting viewing for one episode. Once the studio has reuinted the long lost parties with all the fireworks and slick editing, they move on to the next subject. The pals have a lifetime to discuss their cars which the viewers need not be bored with.
I sure am glad to hear you views, though. Thanks!
